Role of state agencies

State forestry agencies fill multiple roles in prescribed fire based on local and regional needs. State forestry agencies can provide

  • Training opportunities and safety guidelines for fire practitioners
  • Community Protection Program Prescribed Fire Grants
  • Listings of forestry prescribed burn vendors
  • Assistance to the Certified Prescribed Burn Manger Program
  • Prescribed fire workshops for landowners
  • Prescribed burn notifications to the public
  • Smoke management resources

In some southern states, the state forestry agency can also perform prescribed burns on private and public property


Role of SGSF

The Southern Regional Strategy Committee developed the Southeast Regional Action Plan to implement the National Cohesive Wildland Fire Management Strategy (Cohesive Strategy). The Cohesive Strategy contains tangible approaches towards achieving resilient landscapes, fire adapted communities and wildfire response.
