State-driven Implementation

State-led approaches to managing southern forests and addressing emerging issues have been shown to be extremely successful, as they are informed by on-the-ground experience and longstanding partnerships. SGSF strives to raise the profile of state programs, especially related to the development of federal regulation that would impact or even mirror current state-led efforts.

Forestry Best Management Practices

SGSF recognizes the successful region-wide impact states have had by leading voluntary Best Management Practices to reduce water quality impacts from logging operations. SGSF works to ensure federal policymakers are aware of these successful programs when contemplating additional regulation of waterways or forest roads.

Forest Action Plans

SGSF promotes the recognition of State Forest Action Plans as the principal guide for forest management and conservation activities across the country, to be used by policy-makers, planners and partners.
